So, Pompeii turns out to be overwhelmingly touristy and full of anachronisms...but when you get past all that, there are some very interesting things. It was raining on us all day while we were there...kinda a bummer, I would have loved to sketch more, but ink + raindrops = a mess.
This particular spot in Pompeii was inspiration for the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, by Louis Kahn, around 1970.
Rain in the streets of Pompeii, it eventually started hailing on us.
Beautifully in tact Frescoes. To keep the sheen on them, it is said they used olive oil, not Pop-Eye's girlfriend...
Lindsey found these giant plants (look like aloe octopi...octopuses?), and Jeremy climbed down to get a better look.
The Baker's house, you can see the oven on the left behind Jeremy.
Ancient Olive Press
Many of the houses had telescoping doorways, I liked the framing in these.
Kinda scary faces...we were excited because we had been trying to find gelato in Paestum (where our hotel was) for a few nights, but they all closed early, but this night we did find it. I do believe mine is Kiwi and Melon flavored.
